Rodney Diaz is an art director, designer, writer, and photographer in Southbury, Connecticut. Growing up in rural Alabama, he was never a shrimp-boat captain or a college football All-American. However, he did spend one long, hot summer hanging iron across the South with a crew of ne’er do wells, sparking an interest in building that ultimately led to his role as the creative director at Fine Homebuilding magazine. He designs editorial, corporate, and advertising content while art directing freelance designers, illustrators, and photographers. In addition, he contributes writing and photography to the magazine. He also designs and builds sheds, built-in cabinetry, and other things made of wood.

Prior to joining Fine Homebuilding, Rodney was the art director at The Oxford American, an associate art director at Fine Woodworking, and the design director at the Southern Poverty Law Center.

A FEW PERSONAL NOTES
I love spending time with my wife and two sons. I listen to a variety of music as a hobby, and I know I play a bad guitar. My favorite color is tobacco sunburst. The movement you need is on your shoulder. I watch too many Seinfeld reruns, Warner Bros. cartoons, and Wes Anderson films. Robert Pattinson is the best Batman. I bake a delicious pecan pie.
